I couldn't resist to return to the Long-eared Owl site. The Owl sketched some days ago perched exactly on the same spot (well, 10 cms to the right).
I had to return home earlier, so could finish only the bird. I think I'll go back on a similar dull day, and complete the background.

I've tried a new technique for my B&W illustrations. I paint them with water-soluble black ink. I dilute it with water to get a wide range of greys. I'll practice and plan to make complete pictures with this.

Please check out the blog of my photographer friend, Gábor Vasuta:
He has just been photographing White-backed Woodpeckers with an extremely outstanding result, and he put up one of my drawings of the species to his blog to compare the 2 types of approach to illustrate a certain species.

For an ID page on Crows I decided to paint the head of Carrion Crow and juvenile Rook for comparison. However when the initial pencilwork was done I found the drawing quite attractive, so I put some notes around the heads and will include this on the page.
I find graphite drawings more and more interesting, so I'll make complete pictures with this technique in the future.

Here's another Osprey from 2001. I'm no more satisfied with this one, so I decided to paint the new one.
