I spent yesterday in the field, not far from my home. Similarly to last spring, I found some Curlews beside the road, and could make some sketches of them:


The male bird with broken bill has returned! It has a territory in a restricted area for at least 10 years now. It was with a female, and made some display flights:

Hi Szabi! Great news you still have some breeding curlews. We still have plenty in Bowland but their future looks bleak in the UK as a whole. I can still hear them flying over the cottage on migration while I lie in bed in the morning as well as from inside the office at work. Fantastic birds - I can never see enough of them.
